The seventh Deepwater Operations Conference & Exhibition will be held at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas, November 3-5, 2008. The theme for this year’s conference is “Succeeding in a Changing Environment.” The objective is to generate ideas for succeeding in an environment that becomes more complex, hazardous, and expensive as the industry shifts to deeper waters. PLMA’s 2008 Private Label Trade Show will be the event of the year as more than 10,000 manufacturers, retailers, wholesalers, brokers, and suppliers converge on Chicago’s Rosemont Exhibition Center November 16-18, 2008. Nearly 20,000 different products will be on display from food and beverages to health and beauty care and household. Exhibitors will be covering all major product categories. The show floor will include fresh, frozen, and refrigerated foods, snacks, beverages, ethnic specialties, and gourmet lines at numerous trade show displays. Also shown will be paper, plastics, wraps and foils, all types of kitchen and household products, health and beauty, DIY and GM.

The percentage of American shoppers frequently buying store brands has been steadily increasing. Seven out of ten shoppers believe that the private label products they buy are as good, if not better, than their national brand counterparts. Nearly half of all consumers say that their typical market basket contains 25% or more of store brand products. Store brands now account for one of every five items sold in U.S. supermarkets, drug chains, and mass merchandisers. They represent more than $65 billion of current business at retail.

PLMA’s “Idea Supermarket” will reveal the latest examples of what supermarkets, drug chains, and mass merchandisers around the world are doing with their private label programs. Retailers from Europe, Asia, and South America will all be represented along with chains from the U.S. and Canada.
